in People Over the Age of 60
Over 50 Million Americans are at Risk for AMD
- Age - 55 Years of Age and Older
- Smokers
- Heredity - Family History
- High Blood Pressure
- Pigmentation - Light Skinned

According to the National Eye Insitute (NEI), taking high levels of antioxidants and zinc can reduce the risk of developing advanced Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) by about 25%.
Omega-3 fatty acids (EPA/DHA) from fish oil reduces the risk of developing Dry AMD by 32%* and Wet AMD by 70%.**
*American Journal of Clinical Nutritional, October 2009
**American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, August 2008
The AREDS study found that high-dose antioxidant vitamins and minerals (vitamins C and E, beta carotene, zinc and copper), taken by mouth, reduced the progression of advanced AMD by 25%, and the risk of moderate vision loss by 19%.
AREDS-2 is OZAL - TOZAL® without taurine.
There are two types of AMD
- Dry - about 90% of cases
- Wet - about 10% of cases
Signs and Symptoms of Dry AMD
- Loss of central vision (usually slow, painless and mild)
- Central blind spots or scotomas (usually occur late and may be severe)
- Pigment changes
- Drusen or yellow spots
Signs and Symptoms of Wet AMD
- Rapid vision loss
- Visual distortion
- Central blind spots or scotomas
- Curving of straight lines
Diagnosis
Your doctor will diagnosis AMD by funduscopic examination
Treatment
- Dietary supplements for dry or wet AMD such as TOZAL®
- Injection treatments for wet AMD
- Supportive measures
Dry Eye
Over 16 Million Americans are at Risk for Dry Eye
TOZAL® is specifically formulated with 600mg of distilled pharmaceutical grade omega-3 fatty acids (EPA/DHA) from fish oil to provide continued relief from Dry Eye, Tear Deficiency and Meibomian Gland Dysfunction.
Replenishing your body with omega-3 fatty acids (EPA/DHA) from fish oil may improve your quality of tears.
Causes of Dry eye can be due to the loss of oil in the lipid layer causing evaporative Dry eye.
TOZAL® contains a therapeutic dose of vitamin A to replenish deficiencies which could lead to xerophthalmia.
The NEI promotes the benefits of using omega-3 fatty acids (EPA/DHA) from fish oil to treat Dry Eye.
Excellent adjunctive therapy to your topical Dry Eye regimen.
What Is Dry Eye?
Dry Eye is often a chronic condition affecting the quality of tears due to incomplete wetting of the ocular surface and tear film instability.
Is Dry Eye Serious?
Yes, especially if left ignored. Dry eye not only causes discomfort, but it can lead to other serious ocular problems, even blindness. Visual acuity and tear film quality is directly compromised in an untreated Dry Eye. Everyday activities are affected if Dry Eye is not treated.
Who has Dry Eye?
Dry Eye affects more than 10 million people nationwide. While Dry Eye is more prevalent in women over 40 (75% of postmenopausal women have eye irritation), more than 1 million men over the age of 50 have serious Dry eye.
Some factors that can contribute to Dry Eye are advancing age, anticholinergic medications (antidepressants, antihistamines, nasal decongestants, pain relievers, diuretics and some commonly used to treat high-blood pressure), poor diet, heating/cooling systems, contact lens use, computer use, refractive surgery (LASIK), autoimmune disorders, and excessive TV watching or reading.
Traditional Treatments
Other eye lubricants only provide temporary relief to the symptoms and frequently do not address the underlying causes of Dry Eye. It is important to provide treatment to all 3 layers of the tear film. If there is insufficient wetting of the ocular surface, the tear film is not stable. It is imperative that the ocular surface be completely wet, even the hydrophobic (water fearing) area of the eye. When the outermost Lipid Layer is compromised then the ocular surface is exposed and tear loss (evaporation) takes place. It is also important to heal the damaged epithelium that can be present in Dry Eye. In Dry eye, the epithelium can loosen and become leaky allowing salts to penetrate and tears to be lost due to absorption. Treating this condition will re-establish the integrity of the epithelium and achieve a stabilized tear film. Addressing all of these conditions is essential in treating Dry Eye.
